Antique 19th C. French Lavabo from Sarreguemines Factory

Condition: Previous Restorations-rare old rivet repairs, minor chips and cracks; finial is chipped – Marks on Bottom of Basin -  Probably Mid 19th Century. The Sarreguemines Pottery Factory was established in 1790 and survived three wars and much political conflict until 1983. Sarreguemines was known for its high quality wares, from faience, majolique, and stoneware over the years, receiving commissions from Napoleon I for items to be placed in Versailles. Business mergers and relationships with Villeroy & Boch of Mettlach and Choisy-le-Roi added to a significant customer base. This antique French lavabo has transferware patterns in greenish blue of garden scenes. Rivets or metal clamp repairs were done in Europe on porcelain or vitreous materials by jewelers and metalsmiths from the 1600’s to 1960, and was the preferred method and in some time periods, the only method. Basin: H=5 1/8
