Alpine Landscape by Josef Thoma, 1868

Josef Thoma (1828-1899) Josef Thoma was born in Vienna in 1828, as the son of an artist he was initially taught to paint by his father but showing bright promise he attended the Vienna Academy of fine art. Josef Thoma was based in Vienna throughout his life and became a renowned painter of alpine scenes, his finest works often capturing a burning dusk. The Vienna Public Museum has an example of his work in their permanent collection.
