An exceptional watercolor portrait of a young lady in a blue dress signed and dated by W. W. Waite, Abingdon, Nov. 28, 1825. This appears to retain the original bird's eye maple veneered frame with an undisturbed back. The portrait shows a young lady in a blue dress with a shawl and perfectly formed curls of black hair on either side of her head. William Watkin Waite (1778-1859) was a respected miniaturist from Abingdon, England. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1804 and again in 1821. Both the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum have examples of his work in their collections. Excellent condition with just a bit of wear to the gilt liner and missing the veneer on the sides of the frame.
3 3/4" x 4 1/2" the actual portrait, 6" x 6 1/2" for the lined paper and 9 3/4" x 9" overall
