Federal Cherrywood Secretary

Here is a secretary for the less formal or country Federal home. It is made of solid cherrywood and the unusual cherrywood veneer. This early example with square tapered legs is embellished with mahogany and maple inlays in wonderful exuberant patterns. Even the top board of the desk section has an inlaid oval to decorate it. Lots of storage space and a writing surface. Note that it is only 36" wide giving it nice but delicate proportions. It was made in the Connecticut River Valley circa 1800-10. Excellent original structural condition.

Height 47", width 36", depth 21 1/2".
