"Bourke Cochran With Jockey Up Taking A Hedge At Saratoga, NY 1887" Oil On Canvas By William Van Zandt
The title of this painting is written on a label affixed to the back of the original frame. It is signed in the lower left "W. Van Zandt, Albany 1887". William Van Zandt was a noted equine painter who lived upstate New York in the Albany area, which is where the famous Saratoga race track is. He painted in the folk tradition and this painting is truly charming. Can you imagine a jockey being that relaxed as he takes a hedge ! Retains its original gilt frame in excellent condition; small amount of inpainting in sky.
