American One Drawer Stand with Tambour Compartment

A very rare example of innovative country furniture design having a rectangular rounded edge top above a mortise and tenon case fitted with a dovetailed drawer and a sliding tambour door storage area, all standing on four Sheraton turned legs.  Cherry, pine and poplar retaining an old red painted surface.  Signed on the underside of the drawer "Mrs Jacob Metzler, Repair & Paint Red as it was",  "May 22, 1847". Pennsylvania, C 1840.
