A Rare Pair of Parcel Gilt Mahogany Chippendale Rococo Looking Glasses, c. 1760/1780
These gilt mirrors make a sensational statement with elaborate carving on a mellow, well-aged mahogany substrate. Pairs are extremely rare, and these are of exceptionally large size, retaining their original wavy aged glass. There are no breaks or major alterations; the both retain original backboards, etc.
The Rococo theme here has the character of work done early in the Chippendale period, and the overall feeling is one of a very Rococo early style of this opulent mirror form. These are the best of the best.
