This base is exceptional in its condition, which has its old scrubbed surface of tiger maple drawerfronts with a fabulous Connecticut pinwheel fan, above a beautifully stylized skirt, centered with what's called a whale's tail. Obviously, this is probably a coastal Connecticut piece, and all stands on robustly carved Queen Anne cabriole feet the top was put on years ago, also of maple, and truly looks like it's always been there. The brasses are period Chippendale replacements.
This is an exceptional base with all the desireable features of fabulous pinwheel, whale's tail, and old surface.
