A Fine Inlaid Federal Sheraton Mahogany Chest possibly Rhode Island, c.1810

This chest is stylized on the Boston models popular at the time which, however, we think, is probably Rhode Island as the secondary woods are chestnut, which is typical of furniture produced there. The mahogany has a deep red-brown color and the stylized lunette molding somewhat typical to the type Seymour was using in Boston is quite remarkable, (see details above and below). This molding is made up of several types of wood varying patterns depending on the shops that produced such show up. This is a very fine molding, indicative of the quality of this piece. The brasses are probably original, and the escutcheons are ivory. The top is a beautifully figured of solid mahogany. All is preserved in superb condition with a fine French polish.

Height: 36 3/4in. Case Width: 40 in. Overall Width: 42 in. Depth: 20 in.
