New York, at the turn of the century, had fine cabinetmakers, such as Hagen and Company that made fine copies of Phyfe’s furniture, whose tools, etc. he purchased and added to Phyfe’s already legendary pieces; another was Sypher & Co. This corner chair is branded and has claw and ball feet in addition to carved shells on the seat frame, acanthus carving on the legs and, if this were not enough, carved splats and reeded arm supports.
Labeled furniture is always more valuable, as it appeals to both collectors and users, and this chair is no exception, as corner chairs have always been a favorite. It is in superb original condition.
