Antique French Armoire in the Transitional Style with Musical Trophy Frontal Panels

This charming antique French armoire is in the Transitional Style which featured ornamentation from both Louis XV and Louis XVI periods. The front has four asymmetrical full field panels featuring musical trophies with a variety of instruments. There are further motifs of scalloped shells, scrolling vines and flowers, acanthus leaves and an urn with a stiff leaf base and stylized Greek Key handles. This small French antique armoire has a stepped in shaped cornice, rectangular shaped body with rounded sides, a shaped apron and roquillard legs with scrolled feet at the front and block feet at the back. The interior is fitted with a single shelf having a small hollow round metal rod suspended from it for hanging clothes. Condition: Rubs to wood; lock replaced at some point; old restorations |
